SEEKING THE LORD TOGETHER
Scripture: Psalm 34:3–4
“Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
Psalm 34 is a testimony of David's experience with God's deliverance. Having been rescued from danger and distress, David could not keep silent about God's goodness. He invited others to join him in worship and then shared how God answered his prayers and removed his fears. These verses teach us about the importance of worshiping God together, seeking Him earnestly, trusting His answers, and experiencing freedom from fear through His power.
1. The Call to Glorify the Lord Together
David begins with an invitation: "Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together." True worship is never centered on human achievement but on God's greatness. David understood that God's blessings in his life were not meant to draw attention to himself but to inspire others to praise God. Worship becomes even more powerful when believers unite their voices and hearts in thanksgiving. As we gather with fellow believers to praise God, we encourage one another and publicly declare that God alone is worthy of honor, glory, and praise.
2. The Importance of Seeking the Lord
David continues by saying, "I sought the Lord." His testimony reminds us that God's blessings often follow a deliberate pursuit of His presence. Seeking the Lord involves prayer, studying His Word, worship, and a sincere desire to know His will. David did not rely solely on his own wisdom, strength, or resources; instead, he turned to God in his time of need. This teaches us that whenever we face challenges, uncertainties, or difficulties, our first response should be to seek God's guidance and help rather than depending entirely on human solutions.
3. The Assurance That God Answers Prayer
David confidently declares, "and he answered me." This statement reveals the faithfulness of God toward those who call upon Him. God's answers may not always come immediately or in the way we expect, but He never ignores the sincere prayers of His children. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly demonstrates His willingness to hear and respond to those who seek Him. David's testimony encourages believers to pray with confidence, knowing that God listens attentively and responds according to His perfect wisdom, timing, and purpose.
4. God's Deliverance from Fear
The final part of David's testimony states, "he delivered me from all my fears." Fear can be one of the greatest enemies of faith, often preventing people from fully trusting God. David faced many dangers, enemies, and uncertainties, yet God gave him victory over the fears that troubled his heart. Deliverance from fear does not necessarily mean the absence of problems; rather, it means experiencing God's peace and assurance in the midst of difficulties. When we trust God completely, His presence strengthens us, calms our anxieties, and enables us to face life's challenges with courage and confidence.
Psalm 34:3–4 reveals a beautiful progression in the believer's life: worship leads us to seek God, seeking God leads us to experience His answers, and His answers lead us to victory over fear. David's testimony invites every believer to join in glorifying God, trusting Him in prayer, and relying on His power to overcome every fear. The same God who answered David and delivered him is still faithful today. Therefore, let us exalt His name together, seek Him wholeheartedly, and trust Him to guide, answer, and deliver us in every situation.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I glorify and exalt Your holy name. Thank You for inviting me into Your presence and for hearing me when I call upon You. Help me to seek You earnestly in every circumstance and to trust Your answers even when I do not immediately understand them. Deliver me from every fear and fill my heart with faith, peace, and confidence in Your promises. May my life continually bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
