GO IN THE STRENGTH YOU HAVE
SCRIPTURE: Judges 6:13–14
The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” (Judges 6:13–14)
The cry of Gideon is one that echoes through every generation. He looked at the suffering of Israel under Midian and asked a question many still ask today: “If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened?” This is not a question of rebellion, it is a question of confusion, pain, and longing. Gideon had heard of the wonders of God’ deliverance from Egypt, miracles, and victories, but his present reality did not match the stories of the past. And yet, God’s answer was not an explanation; God’s answer was a commission. “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”
Honest Questions Do Not Disqualify You: Gideon questioned God’s presence and wondered about His silence, yet something powerful stands out; God did not rebuke him or reject him; instead, God engaged him. This reveals that many people misunderstand faith, thinking they must have everything figured out before God can use them. In reality, God is not intimidated by honest questions. Your doubts do not cancel your destiny, and your confusion does not erase your calling. Instead of hiding your struggles, bring your real thoughts to God, because authentic faith is not about pretending to be strong; it is about engaging God sincerely even in uncertainty.
2: God’s Answer Is Often A Call To Action: When Gideon asked, “Why is this happening?” God responded with a simple but powerful command: “Go.” This is striking because God did not provide a detailed explanation or theological breakdown; He gave an assignment. Often, we desire answers to satisfy our understanding, but God responds with responsibility to activate our obedience. We ask “Why?” but God says “Go,” because sometimes the solution to the very problem we are questioning is found in us stepping forward in obedience. Instead of waiting for complete understanding, we must learn to respond to God’s instruction, knowing that obedience often unlocks the clarity we seek.
3: God Uses What You Already Have: God’s instruction to Gideon was clear: “Go in the strength you have.” He did not ask Gideon to become stronger first or to acquire something new; He told him to move with what he already possessed. Gideon saw himself as weak, insignificant, and unqualified, but God saw potential and purpose. This reminds us that God never waits for perfection before He sends someone; He works with our current abilities, present resources, and existing capacity. Too often, we disqualify ourselves because we feel inadequate, but God is calling us to recognize that what we already have is enough when it is placed in His hands.
4: Divine Sending Is The Source Of Confidence: God concludes His instruction with a powerful assurance: “Am I not sending you?” This becomes the foundation of Gideon’s mission. His success was not dependent on his personal strength but on God’s authority and backing. When God sends you, you carry divine backing, walk under divine authority, and operate with divine assurance. True confidence does not come from self-belief alone but from understanding who has commissioned you. Therefore, instead of relying on your limitations, anchor your confidence in the certainty that God Himself has sent you.
5: Your Assignment Is Connected To Deliverance: God told Gideon to “save Israel,” showing that his calling was not just about personal growth but about national deliverance. Gideon’s obedience had consequences far beyond himself; it affected the destiny of others. In the same way, when God calls you, it is always bigger than you; someone’s freedom is tied to your obedience, and someone’s breakthrough is connected to your response. This means your calling carries weight and purpose, and your willingness to act may become the answer to someone else’s prayer. Therefore, take your assignment seriously, knowing that your obedience has the power to bring transformation to others.
Gideon started as a man full of questions, fear, and doubt, yet God saw him as a deliverer. The same God who spoke to Gideon is still speaking today, saying, “Go in the strength you have” and “I am sending you.” You may not feel ready or understand everything, but if God has called you, then you already have enough to begin.
Stop waiting for perfect conditions, stop comparing yourself to others, and start moving in what God has placed in your hands. Ask yourself today: What has God already told me to do that I have not yet acted on?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us even in our weakness. Teach us to trust Your voice more than our fears. Give us courage to go in the strength we have. Help us to walk in obedience, knowing that You are the One who sends us. Use our lives as instruments of deliverance and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
