LIVING WATER – EPISODE 618 || 12TH FEBRUARY, 2026
By Solomon Uwumbolibe Mensah
WHEN GOD MAKES YOU REMEMBER
There are moments in life when God allows a problem to arise, not to destroy us, but to awaken a memory.
In our text, Pharaoh is troubled. He has dreams that none of his wise men can interpret. The palace is anxious. The king is restless. The nation is uncertain. And suddenly, a forgotten man remembers. “Today I am reminded of my shortcomings.”
The chief cupbearer had forgotten Joseph for two full years. But when God was ready to elevate Joseph, He stirred the memory of a man who had once been silent.
Beloved, when God is ready to promote you, He knows how to make the right people remember you.
1. Divine Timing Cannot Be Rushed: Genesis 41:9–13 teaches us first that divine timing cannot be rushed. Joseph had correctly interpreted the dreams of the cupbearer and baker, and he specifically asked the cupbearer to remember him when he was restored to Pharaoh’s service. Yet he was forgotten for two full years. To human eyes, this seemed unfair and discouraging, but heaven had not forgotten him. Those years were not wasted; they were part of God’s preparation process. If Joseph had been remembered immediately, he might have been released quietly and returned to obscurity. Instead, God allowed the delay so that when remembrance came, it would lead not merely to freedom, but to elevation. When we feel forgotten, we must trust that God’s clock is different from ours, and His timing is always purposeful.
2. God Uses Problems to Activate Your Breakthrough: God often uses crises to activate our breakthrough. Pharaoh’s troubling dreams created the very opportunity Joseph needed. If Pharaoh had slept peacefully, Joseph might have remained in prison indefinitely. The king’s distress became the doorway to Joseph’s destiny. This reminds us that problems in high places can create openings for hidden gifts. God may allow situations that no one else can solve so that the gift He placed inside you can be revealed at the right moment. Instead of resenting difficult seasons around us, we should recognize that God can use them to position us for influence and impact.
3. Accuracy Brings Credibility: faithfulness and accuracy build credibility that speaks long after the moment has passed. The cupbearer testified that everything happened exactly as Joseph had interpreted. Joseph’s integrity in a prison cell became his recommendation in a palace. He did not know that his careful, Spirit-led interpretation would one day be repeated before Pharaoh himself. What we do in obscurity matters. When we handle small responsibilities with excellence and truth, we build a reputation that can follow us into greater assignments. Our consistency today may become the testimony that opens doors tomorrow.
4. God Can Use Imperfect People to Fulfill His Plan: God can use imperfect people to accomplish His purposes. The cupbearer admitted his shortcomings; he had forgotten Joseph when it mattered most. Yet God still used him as the bridge to Joseph’s promotion. This teaches us that even those who fail us are not beyond God’s sovereign plan. The same man who delayed Joseph’s release became the voice that announced his gift before Pharaoh. Rather than holding bitterness, we must trust that God can redeem relationships and use flawed individuals as instruments of blessing in our lives.
5. Your Season Can Change in a Day, this passage reveals that seasons can change suddenly. Joseph went from prisoner to palace candidate in a single day. Two years of silence were followed by one decisive moment of recognition. When God determines that the time has come, circumstances align quickly and decisively. The waiting season may feel long, but the transition can be swift. Therefore, we must remain ready, spiritually prepared, and faithful in hidden places, because when God says it is time, remembrance will come, doors will open, and destiny will unfold.
Call to Action
Remain faithful where you are; Develop your gift in obscurity; Choose freedom over resentment toward those who forgot you, and Trust God’s timing.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You that You never forget Your children.
When I feel overlooked, remind me that You are working behind the scenes.
Prepare me in my hidden seasons. Refine my character. Sharpen my gifts.
And when the appointed time comes, let doors open that no one can shut.
Use even those who once forgot me as instruments of Your purpose. I trust Your timing.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
