CHRIST THE CENTER OF EVERYTHING
Scripture: Colossians 1:17–18
“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.”
In a world driven by speed, ambition, competition, and constant change, many people are searching for stability, direction, and purpose. Businesses rise and fall. Careers fluctuate. Economies shift. Relationships sometimes weaken. Even churches can struggle with focus and unity.
Paul, writing to the Colossian church, reminds believers of one eternal truth: Jesus Christ is supreme over everything. He is not just a historical figure or religious leader; He is the sustaining power of the universe and the governing head of His church.
This passage reveals three powerful truths about Christ that transform how we live, lead, build businesses, and manage our daily lives.
1. Christ is the Foundation of All Things
Jesus existed before creation. He is not a product of time; He is the author of time. Every system, opportunity, resource, and ability originates from Him.
Christ is eternal. He is the source of life, wisdom, and purpose. When we recognize Him as the foundation, our lives gain clarity and stability.
A life built without Christ becomes unstable. Prayer and devotion align our decisions with divine wisdom. Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Identity Must Come From Christ: Many people define themselves by achievements, wealth, or social status. True identity comes from knowing we belong to Christ.
Priorities Become Clear: When Christ is first, distractions lose power. Time, relationships, and goals become balanced.
2. Christ Holds All Things Together
Christ is not only the Creator; He is the Sustainer. Creation did not come into existence by chance, and it does not continue by human effort alone. Life holds together by divine order, and that order is maintained by Christ Himself.
The forces that keep the universe in balance, the wisdom that governs seasons, and the grace that preserves life all flow from Him. Without Christ’s sustaining power, existence would collapse into chaos. What science describes as order, Scripture reveals as Christ’s ongoing authority.
When Christ is ignored, fragmentation follows: Vision weakens, Unity breaks, Stability disappears. But when Christ is central, He brings alignment, peace, and endurance.
3.Businesses and Institutions
This means that businesses are not spiritually neutral entities. They operate under divine order, moral accountability, and eternal purpose.
A business, like a person, requires: A foundation, Sustaining principles, Leadership, Direction, Accountability.
And Scripture makes it clear that Christ fulfills all of these.
When Christ is not the foundation of a business, profit becomes the highest authority. When profit becomes lord, people are reduced to tools, ethics become optional, and longevity is compromised. But when Christ is before all things in business, integrity governs operations, service defines culture, and stewardship shapes strategy.
4. Christ Sustains Organizations, Not Just Individuals
Just as Christ holds individuals together, He also holds organizations together. He sustains vision during economic uncertainty, unity during internal conflict, and resilience during market disruption. Businesses collapse not only because of financial strain but because of moral decay and leadership fragmentation; areas where Christ’s sustaining power is often ignored.
5. Christ Is the Head
Christ being the Head of the Church reveals a leadership principle that extends into the marketplace. Leadership was never meant to dominate, exploit, or manipulate. Christ-like leadership serves, builds, and protects. Businesses that submit leadership to Christ operate with accountability, compassion, and responsibility toward employees, customers, and society.
6. Christ Must Have Supremacy in Everything :
Christ’s supremacy demands that no area is excluded; not personal ambition, not corporate governance, not wealth creation, and not innovation. There is no separation between sacred and secular when Christ is Lord. Every enterprise becomes an expression of worship when it is submitted to Him.
Therefore, this passage is not merely calling individuals to surrender; it is calling businesses, institutions, and economic systems to recognize Christ as supreme.
