THE KINGDOM AND PRIESTHOOD OF BELIEVERS
Scripture Reading: Revelation 5:10
"You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”
In Revelation 5:10, the song of the elders continues, declaring that the Lamb has not only redeemed His people but also appointed them to a divine purpose: “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” This verse reveals that salvation is not only about forgiveness and eternal life; it is also about authority, service, and partnership with God. Believers are called into a royal priesthood, empowered to influence the world and bring heaven’s purposes to earth.
1. Redemption Brings Kingdom Identity: The first phrase, “You have made them to be a kingdom,” highlights that through Christ, believers are elevated into a royal position. We are no longer subjects of sin or the world but citizens of God’s eternal Kingdom. This kingdom identity empowers believers to live with authority, confidence, and purpose. Recognizing that we belong to God’s Kingdom changes how we see ourselves, our actions, and our influence in the world.
2. Believers Are Priests: The Lamb also calls His people “priests to serve our God.” In the Old Testament, priests had access to God, interceded for the people, and maintained holy worship. Today, all believers share in that priesthood through Christ. Our spiritual authority includes intercession, worship, and service. We are called to represent God, offer prayers and praises, and mediate His blessings to the world around us. This reminds us that spiritual authority is inseparable from service and devotion.
3. Authority to Reign on Earth: The final phrase, “they will reign on the earth,” shows that redemption comes with purpose and influence. Believers are not merely passive recipients of God’s grace; we are active participants in His Kingdom. Through Christ, we have authority over sin, the enemy, and worldly challenges. Our reign is not for selfish gain but to establish justice, righteousness, and God’s will on earth. Living as God’s priests and kingdom people requires courage, obedience, and faithfulness.
4. Worship and Authority Are Connected: This verse connects redemption, authority, and worship. The song of praise to the Lamb emphasizes that our ability to reign and serve comes from His worthiness and sacrifice. Spiritual authority is never separated from gratitude, obedience, and reverent worship. When believers honor Christ as Lord, we step into the fullness of the purpose for which we were redeemed.
5. Our Calling Is Global and Eternal: The redeemed are drawn from “every tribe, language, people, and nation” (Revelation 5:9) and are called to reign collectively. God’s Kingdom is not local or limited; it is universal, and His people are called to influence the world in alignment with His plan. Believers reign through spiritual authority, prayer, worship, and faithful service, reflecting Christ’s reign on earth even before His final return.
Revelation 5:10 teaches that salvation is not only personal but also purposeful. Through Christ, believers are made a kingdom, appointed priests, and empowered to reign on the earth. Our lives are meant to reflect God’s authority, extend His worship, and advance His Kingdom. This calls us to live boldly, serve faithfully, and walk in the victory of the Lamb who redeemed us.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for redeeming me through the blood of Jesus and calling me to be a kingdom and priests. Help me to walk in the authority, service, and worship You have entrusted to me. May my life reflect Your Kingdom on earth and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
