LIVING WATER – EPISODE 633 || 27TH FEBRUARY, 2026
By Solomon Uwumbolibe Mensah
UNRECOGNIZED DESTINY
Scripture Reading: Genesis 42:3–7
"Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the person who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground. As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. “Where do you come from?” he asked.
“From the land of Canaan,” they replied, “to buy food.” (Genesis 42:6–7)
Life often brings moments when God is working powerfully behind the scenes while we remain unaware of what He is doing. The story of Joseph’s brothers traveling to Egypt during famine is more than a search for food; it is a divine appointment arranged by God. Years earlier, betrayal separated a family, dreams seemed forgotten, and pain appeared to have won. Yet God was quietly positioning events so that prophecy, restoration, and provision would meet at the same moment. This passage teaches us that God can use hardship, delay, and even misunderstanding to bring us face-to-face with destiny.
1. Famine as God’s Instrument of Direction: The famine forced Joseph’s brothers to go down to Egypt in search of grain, revealing that God sometimes uses hardship to move people into places connected to their destiny. They were not traveling for spiritual reasons but for survival, yet God was guiding their steps toward a divine encounter. Many times, God allows seasons of need, delay, or discomfort because they position us where His promises will unfold. What appears to be a struggle for provision may actually be a journey into fulfillment.
2. Fear Can Delay but Cannot Stop God’s Plan: Jacob’s decision not to send Benjamin shows how fear can influence human choices even when God’s plan is already in motion. Having suffered loss before, Jacob tried to protect what remained, demonstrating how past pain can shape present actions. Fear often causes people to hold back blessings, relationships, or opportunities because they want to avoid further hurt. Yet God’s purposes continue to advance even when human caution tries to slow the process, reminding us that divine plans are greater than human anxiety.
3. Prophecy Is Fulfilled Even When Unrecognized: When Joseph’s brothers arrived in Egypt and bowed before him, prophecy was fulfilled without their awareness. Years earlier, Joseph had dreamed that his brothers would bow before him, and now the dream stood fulfilled while they remained unaware of its meaning. This teaches that God’s promises come to pass at the appointed time, even when those involved do not recognize the moment. Destiny often unfolds quietly, and people may participate in God’s plan without realizing they are standing inside prophecy.
4. God Transforms People Through Hidden Processes: Joseph recognized his brothers immediately, but they did not recognize him, showing how time, process, and transformation can change a person so completely that others fail to see who they have become. The one they rejected was now the governor of the land, positioned with authority and responsibility. God often develops His servants in hidden seasons of testing and preparation. When elevation comes, it reveals the power of God’s process; proving that delay was not denial but preparation.
5. God Uses Confrontation to Prepare Restoration: Joseph spoke harshly to his brothers, not simply out of anger but as part of a process that would expose truth and lead to healing. Sometimes God allows uncomfortable moments to reveal the condition of the heart and prepare people for reconciliation. The brothers came seeking food, but God intended restoration for a broken family. In the same way, God may allow difficult encounters in our lives to bring repentance, growth, and healing that comfort alone could never produce.
This passage reminds us that God is always working beyond what we can see. A famine became direction, fear could not cancel destiny, prophecy was fulfilled unnoticed, hidden seasons produced transformation, and confrontation prepared restoration. The brothers thought they were searching for grain, but they were actually walking into the fulfillment of God’s long-standing plan. In the same way, many moments in our lives carry deeper meaning than we realize, because God is arranging outcomes for His glory.
