KEEP THE WORD OF GOD ALWAYS BEFORE YOU
Scripture Reading: Joshua 1:8
"Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."
As Joshua prepared to lead Israel into the Promised Land, God revealed the greatest secret of victorious living. Joshua did not receive a military strategy, a political blueprint, or an economic plan. Instead, God directed his attention to His Word. The success of Joshua's leadership would not depend on the size of his army or the strength of his weapons but on his relationship with the Scriptures. God established an unchanging principle that still governs the lives of His people today: those who continually speak, meditate on, and obey God's Word position themselves to experience His divine prosperity and success. In a world filled with distractions, opinions, and uncertainty, God calls His people to anchor their lives upon His unchanging truth.
1. Speak God's Word Continually: God instructed Joshua to keep His Word continually in his mouth. This was not merely about reading Scripture occasionally but about constantly speaking it, teaching it, confessing it, and allowing it to shape every conversation and decision. What fills our hearts will eventually flow from our mouths. A believer whose speech is saturated with God's Word speaks faith instead of fear, hope instead of despair, and truth instead of deception. Speaking God's Word also strengthens our own faith because "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Every day we should declare God's promises over our families, our work, our ministry, and our future. Our words should become an echo of what God has spoken.
2. Meditate on God's Word Daily: Biblical meditation is not emptying the mind but filling it with God's truth until it transforms our thinking. To meditate means to carefully reflect, ponder, rehearse, and apply God's Word continually. Joshua was instructed to meditate both day and night because spiritual growth is not achieved through occasional encounters with Scripture but through daily communion with it. The more we meditate on God's Word, the more our minds are renewed, our faith is strengthened, and our discernment increases. God's Word becomes our compass in confusion, our comfort in suffering, and our wisdom in every decision. A mind governed by Scripture is less likely to be controlled by fear, anxiety, or worldly thinking.
3. Obey God's Word Completely: God never intended His Word to remain merely in our minds; it must be demonstrated through our lives. Joshua was not instructed simply to know the Law but to obey it completely. Knowledge without obedience produces pride, but obedience produces spiritual maturity and God's blessing. Many people admire God's promises but ignore His instructions. However, every promise of God carries the expectation of faithful obedience. When God's Word becomes our standard for business, family, ministry, relationships, and personal conduct, we begin to experience His wisdom and favor. True disciples are not merely hearers of the Word but doers of it.
4. Prosperity Comes Through Obedience: God's promise of prosperity is often misunderstood. Biblical prosperity goes far beyond financial wealth. It includes spiritual growth, divine wisdom, fruitful relationships, peace of mind, good stewardship, and the ability to fulfill God's purpose. Joshua's prosperity would come because God Himself would guide every step he took. Likewise, believers who build their lives upon God's Word experience His provision in every area of life. God's prosperity is not built upon shortcuts, manipulation, or dishonest gain; it flows from faithful obedience and dependence upon Him. When God prospers a person, He enables them to become a blessing to others and to advance His Kingdom.
5. True Success Is Found in God's Will: The world often defines success by status, possessions, popularity, or influence. God's definition is entirely different. Success is fulfilling His purpose while remaining faithful to His Word. Joshua would conquer nations, but his greatest success would be his unwavering commitment to obey God. In the same way, our greatest achievement is not accumulating wealth or recognition but hearing God say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Lasting success is not determined by what we accomplish for ourselves but by what we accomplish through God's grace for His glory. A life rooted in Scripture will never be wasted because God's Word always leads us toward His perfect will.
Joshua 1:8 reminds us that God's Word is not merely a book to read but a life to live. We are called to speak it continually, meditate on it consistently, and obey it wholeheartedly. As we make God's Word the foundation of every decision, every conversation, and every step we take, He transforms our character, directs our paths, and establishes the work of our hands. The pathway to true prosperity and lasting success has never changed. It is found in a life completely surrendered to the authority of God's Word.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me Your living and powerful Word. Help me to keep Your Word continually on my lips and hidden in my heart. Teach me to meditate on it day and night so that my thoughts, decisions, and actions will be pleasing to You. Give me the grace to obey everything You have commanded and keep me from walking according to the wisdom of the world. May Your Word transform my life, establish my steps, and lead me into the prosperity and success that come from fulfilling Your divine purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.
