THE LAMB WHO IS WORTHY

Revelation 5:6

"Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne.  

In Revelation 5:6, John’s vision shifts from the triumphant Lion of Judah to the Lamb standing at the center of the throne. At first glance, it seems contradictory — a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, yet standing in victory. This imagery reveals the profound truth of Jesus’ ministry: He is both the suffering Savior and the triumphant King. The Lamb demonstrates that true authority and power are not always displayed through force or domination, but through sacrifice, obedience, and the fullness of God’s Spirit.

1. The Lamb Represents Sacrificial Victory: The Lamb “looking as if it had been slain” reminds us that Jesus’ authority and victory come through His sacrifice on the cross. The power to redeem, judge, and execute God’s purposes does not come from human strength, but from His willingness to suffer and conquer sin and death. This teaches believers that authority in God’s Kingdom is exercised in humility, obedience, and selflessness, rather than pride or aggression.

2. The Lamb Stands at the Center of the Throne: Despite appearing slain, the Lamb stands in the very center of God’s throne, signifying triumph and honor. What looks like defeat to the world is in reality God’s victory. Christ’s suffering was never powerless — it was the means by which God’s redemptive plan was fulfilled. Believers can draw courage from this, knowing that God’s authority often works through what appears weak or unexpected, yet accomplishes eternal results.

3. Seven Horns Signify Perfect Authority: The Lamb has seven horns, symbolizing complete and perfect power. In biblical imagery, horns often represent strength and authority. Jesus, though humble and sacrificial, holds unlimited spiritual power. Every believer who operates under His authority participates in that same power, not by human merit but through alignment with His will. The seven horns remind us that Christ’s authority is comprehensive — over creation, spiritual realms, and human destiny.

4. Seven Eyes Represent God’s Omniscience: The Lamb also has seven eyes, which John explains are “the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.” This illustrates that Christ’s authority is guided by perfect knowledge, insight, and divine wisdom. Authority without understanding can lead to disaster, but the Lamb’s eyes indicate that His power is always exercised with complete awareness of God’s plan and purpose. Believers are called to rely on the Spirit of God to guide their own exercise of authority in alignment with divine wisdom.

5. The Lamb’s Presence in the World: The seven spirits “sent out into all the earth” show that the Lamb’s influence is universal and active. Christ’s authority is not passive; it reaches into every part of creation through the Holy Spirit. Today, as followers of Christ, we operate under His authority empowered by the Spirit. Our effectiveness in prayer, ministry, and spiritual warfare depends on recognizing the Lamb’s sacrificial power and Spirit-filled wisdom at work in us and through us.

Revelation 5:6 teaches that true authority flows from sacrificial obedience, divine wisdom, and the Spirit’s power. The Lamb, though slain, stands victorious at the center of God’s throne, holding perfect power and insight. Believers can live confidently, knowing that our authority in Christ is anchored in His victory, guided by His Spirit, and exercised for God’s glory.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Jesus as the worthy Lamb. Teach us to walk in His authority, guided by the Spirit and strengthened by His victory. Help us to live in obedience, reflect His holiness, and honor Him in all we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
